TVR V8S
TVR V8S
The S Series cars were produced for 9 years between 1986 and 1994 with 6 iterations being the simply named S1, S2, S3, S3C, S4C and V8S. This TVR was to be the new entry level model with external design inspiration taken from the 3000S and mechanical inspiration taken from the Tasmin 280i.The S Series has also been credited as the first place to see the now traditional curvy dashboards, a much loved feature of all future TVRs.
The V8 S-Series came about through circumstance with the Griffith design being planned to be based on an S Series platform but using the Rover derived V8 instead of the Ford V6. As is often the case, TVR needed more time to develop the Griffith for production, so with a modified chassis and adapted bodyshell to allow the larger engine, taken to 3,948cc, to fit into the engine bay, the V8 S (and S4C) were born. Producing 240 bhp and 270 lbs/ft this initial entry level TVR could sprint to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds and had a top speed of 149 mph. No wonder it was fitted with disc brakes all round rather than the rear drum brakes of its forebears!
